Online Arizona Winter Date Workshop

Course Overview:

 

The University of Arizona Yuma County Cooperative Extension is hosting the Arizona Winter Date Workshop.

 

This is a three hour workshop with 6 different speakers talking about research results on pollen concentration needed for effective date pollination and the metaxenia effect as it relates to Medjool dates. Preliminary results on chemical thinning of date fruit, using plant growth regulators. Irrigation management issues in the California date palms, irrigation tools and technologies available for date palms growers to enhance water use efficiency. Insects and mites that cause economic loss to date producers. Dealing with skin separation in Medjool dates and present strategies for reducing the amount of “puffy skin” in dates. Herbicides for use in date palms (bearing and non-bearing). Developing good weed control to prevent weed bank buildup. Date palm diseases associated with Fusarium, Phytoplasmas, Stigmina, Nalanthamala, and Ceratocystis.
